Lovingly dedicated to Shirley Scovern, Mom, Gran
Definitely use a martini glass…
Combine equal parts of:
Port (I recommend Cockburn’s Fine Ruby Port – a reasonably priced, but better tasting port for this purpose)
Limoncello (Caravella is a good one, but I haven’t found a bad one)
I like two jiggers of each, but remember that this is straight alcohol… If the two ingredients are warm, feel free to add a small ice cube. For panache, put a slice of orange or lemon on the rim. And lastly, think of Shirley Lou.
Story behind the drink…
Shirley liked to be involved in the Thanksgiving food competitions which resulted in all kinds of outcomes. There was her “gourmet grilled cheese” for which she picked the ingredients, but Al had to make it. There was the “bisque” entry by Shirley for which she placed third, only to gleefully report that the bisque was made by Omaha Steaks. But her entry into the drink competition turned out to be one I really like to this day and I always keep the ingredients on hand. She got the idea from her hairdresser and received kudos for this drink. I drink it every month or so, and whenever Sallie is around, and take time while drinking to remember this terrific woman.
